Life partnership

A life partnership is a family union between two persons of the same sex entered into before a competent authority, in accordance with the provisions of the Same-Sex Life Partnership Act.

Persons give notice of their intention to enter into a life partnership to the local registry office responsible for the location where the life partnership is entered into.

The notice of intention to enter into a life partnership must be accompanied by:

  • the identity cards of the partners presented for inspection,
  • a copy of the identity cards of the witnesses.

The registrar will instruct the persons who intend to enter into a life partnership to obtain a court decree if one is required.

The date of entering into a life partnership can be set between 30 and 45 days after the date of giving notice of intention to enter into a life partnership.

Adult Croatian citizens can give their notice of entering into a life partnership in official premises electronically through the e-Prijava životnog partnerstva (e-Notice of Life Partnership) e-service in the e-Citizens system, without having to visit a registry office.

The administrative fee for recording the intention to enter into a life partnership is HRK 70.00, while the administrative fee for the ceremony is HRK 140.00.
